The Truth
The Truth About Meat
We have had it "fed" to us by meat companies that meat is a helathy source of protein, iron, B12 and linoleic acid. Meat is actually the most unhealthy source of all these things, all of which you can get from many other natural and healthy, 'non-artery clogging' foods.
There are many myths when it comes to meat and one is that we need massive amounts of protein. Too much protein (animal protein) can impair our kidneys; leach calcium, zinc, Vitamin B, iron, and magnesium from our bodies and cause osteoperosis, heart desease, many different forms of cancer and obesity. It can also damage our tisues, organs and cells, contributing to faster aging.
Digesting Meat
The digestion process begins with our saliva, the moment we put food into our mouths. Our saliva is high in alkaline and is not made to break down animal flesh, whereas carnivores have acidic saliva perfectly designed for the task.
To break down meat we need high amounts of hydrochloric acid, and our stomachs only secrete very small amounts. Carnivores however, have 10 x the amount of hydrochloric acid in their stomachs than what we have. Our stomachs are high in alkaline, made to break down vegetation, not meat.
Our digestive tracts, enzymes and organs are all different to those of a carnivore, and our kidneys, colon and liver are all ill-equipped to process meat. Unlike carnivores our intestines are very long, so food that doesn't get adequately processed gets clogged and begins to rot, decompose and ferment in our intestinal tracts and colons. Colonoscopy anyone?
Genetically and structurally, we are designed to thrive on plant food and whether it is skinless chicken or lean meat, animal fat is still animal fat (Freedman and Barnouin 2005).
Fish
Now before you go off thinking that you can eat fish and you will be okay let me point out a few things for you. Fish and other seafood contain contaminants from industrial pollutants, waste products and pesticide residues. They also contain high levels of mercury (a suspected carcinogen) and PCBs which absorb into your body. Other chemicals are BHC, Chlordane, DDT, dieldrin, heptachlor and dioxin. These chemicals can cause neurotoxicity, imparing your mental state and ability (Freedman & Barnouin 2005).
Mercury can alter immune function, increase blood pressure, cause blindness and paralysis, and increase chances of cardiac mortility. Mercury has also been known to reduce fertility and vertility, and also inflict permanant brain damage on fetuses, infants and children (Freedman and Barnouin 2005).

The Truth About Dairy
"We need to drink milk and eat cheese for good strong healthy bones".
This couldn't be any further from the truth. Once again meat and dairy companies are filling our heads with absolute rubbish. Researchers of Harvard, Yale, Penn State and the National Institutes of Health studied the effects of dairy intake on the bones, and not one of these studies found dairy to be a deterrent to osteoperosis. What they did find was that dairy and other animal products, when consumed, make your blood acidic and to compensate, calcium is drawn from out of your bones. So if you want "Osteoperosis" keep eating loads of dairy and other animal products.
Futher studies have shown that countries which have high consumptions of dairy and meat products, have higher rates of osteoperosis, whereas countries that consume little to no animal products have the lowest rates in the world, if they have any rate of this terrible bone disease at all. Of 40 tribes in Kenya and Tanzania there is only one that has members suffering from osteoperosis. This is the Maasai tribe - a tribe that owns cattle and drinks a lot of milk.
Dairy has also been linked to loads of other issues including acne, anxiety, headaches, heartburn, anemia, arthritis, attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, fibromyalgia, indigestion, irritable bowel sydrome, poor immune fuction, joint pain, allergies, ear infections, obesity, colic, heart disease, autism, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, diabetes, Crohn's disease and of course, osteoperosis.
Now let's look at all the antibiotics, pesticides, steroids and hormones that get pumped into the cattle constantly - you are ingesting all of these just as you would be if you were to eat the meat directly. That cannot be healthy for your body and is definitley contributing major health issues.
Dioxin is one of the most toxic substances in the world. It is a powerful hormone disrupting chemical and is most often found in animal products. It exhibits serious health effects when it reaches as little as a few parts per trillion in your body fat causing problems such as cancer, reduced immunity, nervous system disorders, miscarriages and birth defects/deformity.
What do the government do about it? Nothing. In the US high amounts of this toxin and others alike are in all animal products, yet the the government and the U.S. Department of Agriculture do nothing to protect people from this as the high levels of pecticides found in the products "meet government standards".
In Australia it has been minimised, but it is still used. Dioxin is on the crops the cattle eat and is found in products that are high in animal fats. In a consultancy funded by the Australian Government, Department of the Environment and Heritage,
Prepared by the Office of Chemical Safety it is stated, "Since foods high in animal fats are a source of exposure to these chemicals, current efforts to promote lower saturated fat intake in the population should continue". Yeah right! Like that is going to work. People are still consuming high amounts of animal fat a day and remember, it only take a small amount of dioxin to do a lot of damage to our health.
Milk is not a reliable source of minerals and much higher amounts of manganese, chromium, selenium, and magnesium are found in fruits and vegetables. Sufficient amounts of calcium can be got from many food. Some of these include: Fortified grains, kale, collard greens, mustard seeds, cabbage, kelp, seaweed, watercress, chickpeas, broccoli, red beans, soy beans, tofu, raw nuts and seeds. Sesame seeds have the highest amounts of calcium and even less that a 1/4 of a cup of sesame seeds equals to 1 full cup of milk.

What is Gelatine?
Mmm, Jelly tastes great doesn't it? And Jelly contains 'Gelatine'. Did you know that Gelatine is made by boiling the ligaments, tendons, skin and bones of pigs and cattle? Well... now you do!
What is Rennet?
Rennet is an enzyme that is taken from the stomach of a calf that has been slaughtered. It is used to curdle milk to make cheese. However you can buy vegetarian cheese that is made from non-animal rennet and the popular 'Devondale' also makes non-animal rennet cheese.

Testing products on animals is illegal in Australia, however this does not stop large companies such as Palmolive and L'Oreal from torturing animals in other countries and sending there products to Australia for consumers to buy. These cruel companies pay loads of money for thousands of animals to be poisoned, burnt and killed. This is done in an attempt to find out the toxicity of the chemicals that are added into make up cosmetics, cleaning products, drugs, pesticides, foods and packing materials.
These animals are exposed to chemicals that cause painful eye and skin irritation, developmental abnormalities, cancer and death. Animals are not given pain relief, as the ‘scientists’ fear that the anesthetics will affect the toxicity of the chemicals that they are testing. So the animals are left to languish and endure excruciating pain of these cruel tests.
Eye Irritancy Test
"For the Eye Irritancy Test (sometimes called the Draize Test) rabbits have their heads locked in a vice so that they cannot move, and then chemicals are rubbed into their eye, usually without pain killers. The animal can be left there for days, unable to rub the substance out of his eye, while ‘scientists’ wait to see what damage the chemical does. The damage caused is given a rating, the highest being 110, which means the eye was completely destroyed. Can you imagine the pain and fear of this animal as its eye is burnt away by toxic chemicals?" (Unleashed)

LD50 Test
"The LD50 test stands for “Lethal Dose 50”. This test aims to find the amount of a chemical you must feed to a group of animals of the same species before half of the animals die. To do this the animals are regularly force fed the same chemical until half of the animals die. For toxic chemicals this can cause extremely painful and cause serious problems before death. For less toxic chemicals the animals may have to endure force feeding of huge quantities of the substance before finally their bodies can no longer cope and they die. This meaningless test is often done on rats and mice, but can also be done on beagles, cats, and many other animals." (Unleashed)

The image below is of a cat that was being poisoned to death by the ingredients used in a household product in an ld50 toxicity experiment.
Dogs have had hoses strapped to their faces and forced to enhale cigarette smoke during experiments. Being in a smoky room for a night has great effects on humans - just imagine what it is doing to these poor dogs.
Skin Irritancy Tests
"Skin irritancy tests involve shaving a patch of fur from animals and applying (often corrosive) chemicals to their bare skin to watch the effect. The harsh nature of many of the chemicals can cause severe chemical burns, gaping wounds and bleeding." (Unleashed)

An article "Animal Testing" by Unleashed.org.au states that, "Many scientists have argued for a long time that animal tests are ineffective at ensuring products are safe for humans. All species differ significantly in their physiology. In fact, one international study found that LD50 tests in rats and mice could only predict toxicity in humans with 65% accuracy, as opposed to about 75% with cell-line tests (a non-animal test). So feeding a new shampoo to rats won’t guarantee that it’s safe for humans. And really, who eats shampoo anyway!?!"
Animals should not have to suffer and die for a new brand of makeup or laundry detergent. Be a caring customer and stop this cruelty. If you need to glam up, clean up or wash up, you can do it without raising the death toll of thousands of defenceless animals. Say NO to animal testing. Facts
- In 2001, 47.9 billion animals were slaughtered for food. There are only 6.6 billion people in the world!
- There are 20 billion head livestock taking up space on Earth. This is more than triple the amount of people and this livestock is just waiting to be slaughtered
- The UN came out with the report that said that animal factory farming contributed more to global warming that the emissions from cars. Also factory farming – which allows diseases to spread quickly as animals are raised in close confinement – has given rise to recent epidemics of meat-borne illnesses.
- The healthiness of a vegetarian diet is perhaps shown most dramatically by the fact that lifelong vegetarians visit hospitals 22% less often than meat eaters – and have shorter stays! Meat eaters have a higher mortality rate and suffer from more diseases.
- The average bone loss for a vegetarian woman at age 65 is 18 percent; for non-vegetarian women, it's double that. Researchers attribute this to the consumption of excess protein-- Excess protein interferes with the absorption and retention of calcium and actually prompts the body to excrete calcium, laying the ground for the brittle bone disease osteoporosis. Animal proteins, including milk, make the blood acidic, and to balance that condition, the body pulls calcium from bones.
- The American Cancer society conducted a study over a 10 year period, with nearly 80,000 people who wanted to lose weight. Participants, who ate meat three or more times a week, gained substantially more weight than participants who avoided meat and ate more vegetables.
- In a study involving 1,500 patients with diabetes, most of them had lost more than half of their kidney function because of a high consumption of animal protein.
- Meat has already begun to rot by the time you get it into your fry pan. So what you are cooking (and eating) is flesh that has already started to decompose.
